1. Collection and processing of personal data

Access to and use of the Website does not require Users to share personal data. However, the use of certain of the Website’s features involves the provision of personal data by Users.

Such data shall be processed by VdA:

(i) Request for contact: such data shall be processed by VdA, further to Users' consent, in order to manage the contact established and to provide any clarifications and information requested by Users;

(ii) Application submission: your personal data will be processed, for the purposes of pre-contractual procedures, for the management of your application;

(iii) The subscription of updates: your personal data will be processed, with your prior consent, for the purposes of sending notifications and other relevant information.

2. User’s rights

Pursuant to applicable law, Users may, at any time, request to have access to their personal data as well as request that it be rectified, erased, that its processing be restricted, its portability, or to object to its processing.

Users can also request confirmation of the personal data processed in their regard, and a copy of data being processed shall be made available, upon request.

Pursuant to the law, Users have the right to withdraw their consent for the processing of their personal data for the abovementioned purposes through the means referred to above, but this does not however, render the processing of their personal data up until such time invalid.

3. Storing of personal data

Personal data collected will be processed in strict compliance with the applicable legislation. Your personal data will be kept in accordance with its intended purpose and for the legally prescribed time.In the absence of a specific legal requirement, personal data will only be stored for the appropriate period of time and to the extent necessary given the reasons for its collection, unless a User exercises his/her right of objection or right to erasure, or withdraws his/her consent, within the established legal limits.

4. Under what circumstances is personal data disclosed to other entities?

VdA may disclose your personal data:

a) when relying on other entities for the provision of certain services, seeing as this provision of services may imply access by these entities to your personal data. As such, any of VdA’s subcontracted entities will process your personal data, in the name and on behalf of VdA, under strict obligation to observe our instructions and in accordance with the terms of the respective subcontracting agreement;

b) to VdA Academia, the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation and to VdA Legal Partners member entities (a list of which can be viewed here), for the purposes referred to above;

c) to any third entities, in cases where we consider such disclosure necessary or appropriate (i) under the applicable law, (ii) to ensure compliance with legal obligations/judicial orders, (iii) in line with decisions of the relevant supervisory authorities, or (iv) to respond to requests issued by public or governmental authorities.

In any of these situations, VdA will take all appropriate measures to ensure the effective protection of your personal data.

5. Security

VdA endeavours to protect Users' personal data from unauthorised access. To this end, it makes use of security systems, rules and other procedures, in order to ensure the protection of personal data, as well as to prevent unauthorised access to, improper use of, disclosure, loss or destruction thereof.

It is, however, User’s responsibility to guarantee and ensure that the equipment used to access the Website is appropriately protected against damaging software, viruses and worms.

“Cookies" are small text files which identify the User’s computer on the VdA server. Cookies do not, of themselves, identify individual users, but only the computer used. Cookies are not used for the collection of personal data.

  • PHPSESSID A cookies which allows the Website to respond to any action the User performs on the Website, such as filling out a query form. The Website cannot function properly without this cookie.
  • xms_user: A cookie used by backoffice users. The Website cannot function properly without this cookie.
  • __utma, __utmb, __utmc, __utmt, __utmz: __ utmz cookies beginning with "__utm” allow for the operation of analysis software (analytics). This software helps to analyse visitors to the Website and to provide anonymous information, such as browers used, returning visitors and response to marketing initiatives. This information allows VdA to improve its Website and online experience.
  • __atuvc, atuvs: The __atuvc and atuvs cookies are created and read by the Website's JavaScript which allows for the sharing of content with “AddThis” social networks.
